Discussion The various test that were completed had supporting evidence that deduced the identity of the unknown microorganism. A gram stain was performed on the bacterium and a purple color was seen under the microscope. The purple hue that was acquired by the unknown microorganism indicated that the organism had a thick peptidoglycan layer meaning that the bacterium was gram positive. Looking under the microscope helped to identify the cellular arrangement of the bacterium which was sphere shaped, in clusters and thus narrowing the unknown microorganism to the Coccus species.…

Summary The purpose and goal of this project was to perform a number of tests in the lab and use a dichotomous key to eventually classify a Gram-positive cocci that we were given on March 25th. The key has seven tests to help you determine a certain bacteria, your tests will later on lead you down a certain side to contribute in defining the genus and species. All the following procedures were carried out on the gram positive cocci unknown in this order: Catalase, Oxidase, Nitrate Reduction, Oxidation-Fermentation, Phenol Red, Bacitracin, Coagulase, and lastly, Gelatin Hydrolysis. These tests led me to believe that unknown number 93 is Kocuria rosea.…

Specific tests will lead to a definite answer as to what two bacteria was being dealt with. Unknown bacterium A was selected and subjected to isolation techniques and differential tests for identifying markers. Each experiment served to help eliminated other possible known bacteria and match each of the unknown bacteria two their known bacterium. A Gram stain was performed in which the unknown bacteria were found to be a Gram positive long rod and a Gram negative short rod.…
