By the use of imagery readers are given writing that appeals to their senses allowing their imagination to wander, and create images of what in the text is being described. Imagery is also very impactful on writing because of its major effect on the readers. Imagery allows readers to connect to the writing in a stronger and more impactful way. Towards the end of the passage, imagery is more present explaining Steven’s way up the mountain. “He looked out of his clouded eyes at the faint steady lightening in the east” this quote creates the image of a man just awakening from a deep sleep, his eyes still adjusting to the light of the day, seeing a faint yet steady lightening of into the abyss. Another quote that gives imagery is “-took out the heavy maize cakes and the tea, and put them upon a stone. And he gave thanks, and broke the cakes and ate them, and drank of the tea.” This gives us a very detailed image of man who is eating his meal in the peace of the mountain giving thanks for his meal he has; this paints a pictures not only to our sense of vision but also vaguely of taste. “He left his place and could hardly stand, for his feet were cold and numb.” this quote along with others show that imagery does not only mean images of seeing things but also of our other senses like touch and taste; this quote especially helps the mood and it development in the writing by allowing us to
