The Crusades: Good or Bad?
The Crusades were a battle of religion which included some of the most gruesome and horrific battles in history. The Crusades was a series of battles between the Christians and the Muslims (1095-1291), to take control of Jerusalem. If people want to know the truth, it is critical that they have to look at both sides of the arguments. The Christians believed the first Crusade was good because they accomplished their goals, but the other Crusades were a waste of resources like time and money. Pope Urban II convinced everyone to on the Crusades and the result was significant. Pope Urban II said anyone who went on the Crusades would get a free pass to heaven and money, servants and villas. The response to this as described by Ekkhard was incredible and immediate. This was important to the Crusades because if the response was not as great as it was the Crusades would have turned out differently. Also the main reason that convince the Crusaders to go was that there would be a cleansing of sins, back then there were a lot of knights and people that had done horrific things and wanted to go to heaven. This seemed like the best choice, kill the Muslims and go to heaven, this changed the belief of the Crusaders. Fulk of Charters said “Forthwith, they joyfully rushed into the city to pursue and kill the nefarious enemies, as their comrades were already doing. (Fulk of Charters)” He was talking about the storm of Jerusalem in the 1st Crusade. Later on in his speech he talks about how good the Crusade was, they completed their goal. This is important because this shows a Crusaders opinion during and after the 1st
