The purpose of this ethnographic essay is to explain how Red Lobster uses subtle trigger items to attract customers, explain how they do business and how they give you the feeling of friends and family every time. Imagine yourself on a dry dock on the coast of Maine, bringing in your haul from a big fishing trip; this is how the author feels about his trip to the Red Lobster restaurant. The Red Lobster gives you a feel of how it is to be a fisherman whenever you walk inside. By providing this experience, they attract customers and keep showing a profit.…
This week’s group dynamics class had us outside the “fishbowl” observing the other group. We were to make observations while the other group is attempting to build a tower which needed to be freestanding without any sort of support for a given time. I believe the length of time was about a minute, but then that is pretty long, and so, I am unsure as I can’t remember. Another crucial aspect was that the tower was to be built out of raw spaghetti and marshmallows.…
Everyone did something different this spring break. Therefore, I think this mini vacation has been the first in five years I’ve done exciting things. My mom ,Erika, and her sister ,Myrna, said that they wanted to Tampico’s beach this spring break ,and how we both families can bond at the Maevan’s resort. On FRiday, we got on the train and it took my family to Tampico ,and when we got there our rooms and so as the beach. We put on our swimsuits and we strageth to the beach.…
As a child, my parents shaped me into their ideal image of a little girl. The formation of their ideals actually started long before I first opened my eyes in the hospital. My story began back in 1988, when my parents met while working at Walt Disney World as cultural exchange workers from Canada. Their romance is a fairy tale. They had their first date at the Magic Kingdom, they spent all their days off on a Florida beach, and they experienced the technical magic that Disney is so well-known for.…
“Miami isn’t too far; it is ninety-five miles away at the most…” Maya’s cherubic features made it hard to fabricate an excuse for wanting to stay in Cuba. I knew that staying here, staying in poverty, predisposed me to a life of misery and malnourishment. The journey would be perilous, which made me wonder if it was worth it. I longed to voice my dissent and convince her to condone the actions of the corrupt government, however I knew the time to liberate had come. My patience for living life as nothing more than a pitiful pauper, salvaging and pilfering for my next meal was beyond exhausted.…
The Dominican Republic In October of 2016 I went on an amazing vacation to the Dominican Republic. We were going with my Dad’s side of the family so there there 14 people that went including my Grandma Neicy, Papa Kelly, Aunts Kiley and Annika, Uncle Aaron, Chris, my cousins Charley, Marley, and Bowen, and of course my Mum, Dad, brother Cade, and sister Keira. We started the trip with a whole day of traveling, kicking it off at 6:30 am. We went to Atlanta as our connecting flight, then we were finally on our way to the D.R. Of course most of the plane ride from the US to the Dominican was mostly over water, so there wasn’t much of a view.…
I demonstrated leadership at the waterfront festival by presenting the importance and safety of keeping water clean. I expressed this by keeping the students focused, letting them engage in hands on experiments, and answering all their questions to help them get a better understanding of what was happening. These leadership skills helped me earn respect from each student. One of the ways I demonstrated leadership while presenting to the students was making sure they were focused on my presentation.…
While at first glance, David Foster Wallace’s “Shipping Out” describes the miserable tale of the author on a cruise ship for a week, however, it is actually a commentary on the underlying insidious nature of cruise ships and vacation services. During this period, the author is treated to a multitude of luxuries, including thorough cleaning services, high-class dining, and constant recreational activities provided by the cruise. However, the author grows increasingly unsettled as he realizes the extent the ship’s crew is willing to do in order to gain the validation and the satisfaction of their customers. Jennifer Volland’s essay “Stay: The Archetypical Space of the Hotel” is another work which describes the nature of similar vacation spots,…
“We are going to Disney!” my mother announced at our family dinner. I thought it was going to be just another ordinary family vacation at one of my favorite places. Boy, was I wrong. This was the vacation that would alter the rest of my life.…
Knowing that I wouldn 't get to do everything that I wanted since I got to pick where to go, making a priorities list was key to making the experience memorable. Sight-seeing and trying out different types of food were up there, but the main thing I wanted to do was visit Utah 's mountains. Along the way, there were a few hiccups. First stop, was New Mexico.…
When I went to the Smithsonian Human Origins Exhibit, it made me realize how much more I am informed about human evolution compared to most of the people at the exhibit. One thing was I saw on one the displays that Neanderthals were classified as part of the Homo sapiens lineage, which is not true. During our lecture you already told us that Neanderthals are not part of the lineage. Neanderthals are consider more like sisters than one of us. Also one of the speakers was saying how Homo heidelbergensis were 99.9% closely related to us, which is also false.…
On November 17th, I visited the well-known Ships of the Sea Museum sited in downtown Savannah. The Ships of the Sea Museum is a historical Museum that shares the history of historical ships during maritime. The Museum is located inside William Scarbrough’s House whom was President of the Savannah Steamship Company. The house was built by William Jay 1819; the building served as the West Broad Street School for African American children and later as the headquarters for the Historic Savannah Foundation. It wasn’t until 1996 in which the house became The Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum.…
It was such an amazing resort! All of the sightseeing we had done was incredible, and we even went snorkeling a couple of days ago! Seeing all of the fish and other aquatic life was so amazing. “Jessica, we are going to be late!” my mom yelled.…
The misty night sky seemed to look back at me, while I lied upon my fleece blanket. As I was lying there I had an epiphany. I want to go Jamaica. I had always thought that it would be a really exoctic place to visit and I felt like I needed a break from all of this chaos here. I just need to get away from everything.…
Tossing and turning, I could not sleep the night before our cruise to Ensenada, Mexico. Excitement had gotten the best of me. It was the day of the cruise. We all met 5:30am sharp outside of our friend Aaron’s house. All of us carpooled together in Joey’s car and hit the road to Long Beach, California; where it is the home of the Carnival Corporation’s Long Beach Cruise Terminal.…
