Barbara Kingsolver’s The Poisonwood Bible discusses how cruelty can often act as the driving force for social or political change. It does so by introducing Nathan Price, a missionary from the state of Georgia that exhibits various negative character traits. His ignorance and stubbornness is displayed in “Book One: Genesis” when Nathan disregards Mama Tataba’s advice and cultivates a garden with Leah his own way. He classifies her wisdom as native stupidity and believes it to be evidence of how much help is needed in the Congo. Nathan also shows his capacity for physical cruelty when Orleanna, his wife, tries to help bandage his wounds and he “batted her roughly away.”…

The incongruity of the narrator of "A Modest Proposal" by Swift however, is that he can go ahead to criticize the ethical shortcoming of moms who have corrupt premature births or submit child murder. In one of his most humorous explanations, the speaker dismisses eating young people since this is “bordering upon cruelty,” as though the majority of his different recommendations were definitely not. Like the rationalist, Pangloss in Voltaire's "Candide", the speaker in "A Modest Proposal" deliberately turns a blind eye to different thoughts or choices and thusly, speaks to the most exceedingly bad sort of government official or social organizer. This humorous character can create an impression that would appear to be absolutely monetary without…

Lord of Flies was a novel written by William Golding which explored the notion that humans are not wholly maleficent—though they possess a streak of barbarism; later events in the novel manifested the exact notion. The chapter opened with Ralph roaming on the island. The island can be taken as a foil to the urbane world— where cities teem with culture, advancement and secured from the different agents of nature and hunger. A constant wave of ‘heat’ surrounded the island with thousands of weeds and rocks lying around —a life threat for characters, for instance, Piggy’s knee was scratched by the thorns initially.…

In Game of Thrones cruelty is the driving force that sets up the entire plot and drives the continuous shifting of alliances that is prevalent throughout the story. Without the very first act of cruelty Game of Thrones would be nothing more than a story about a man given the position of the hand to the king. Cruelty serves as the driving force of the entire story, it is the very driving force of the characters who seek political gain, and it serves as a motivation for who wish to have revenge. The first act of pure cruelty that drives the plot is demonstrated in the Game of Thrones mythos is the murder of Prince Rhaegar’s son and the rape of Rhaegar’s daughter and wife from the hands of The Mountain the Rides.…
