It is salient for a physical therapist to be knowledgeable in the variety of exercises a patient can perform in order to return to the "normal" physical state. That is why, I believe, research is extremely crucial in physical therapy since it can innovate new exercises/protocols or inform physical therapists on exercises/protocols which are pertainable to a particular injury. I remember when I had to do physical therapy for my hip and I was able to just follow along my weekly protocol. My physical therapist did not have to make any changes to this protocol since I was receiving the best results from those exercises.
