On the surface the journey that the Bundrens take throughout the story to get their mom to the burial grounds where she wanted to be laid to rest turns out to have more negative outcomes than positive. Towards the end of the story the only character who actually gets something out of the journey is Anse. All of the other bundrens either get hurt or have to sacrifice something along the way. For instance one of the characters that ends up hurt is Cash. On their way to the burial sight where they wanted to take their mom they had some difficulty crossing the river. When they got there they realized the bridge wasn’t there due to the rain and the overflow. When the Bundrens tried to pass their wagon and horses across the river Cash ends …show more content…
He is the one who was pushing the Bundrens to get their mother Addie to where she wanted to get buried. In the story Cash is also seen making the coffin for their mother and takes full responsibility in doing so. Cash is faced with many obstacles when trying to fulfil his mother's wish but somehow is able to hold the family together and push through. A perfect example of where Cash shows his leadership is in the scene of the river. When the Bundrens arrive at the river they realize that the bridge to cross the river has been broken because of the overflowing water from the river. This is where Cash decides that some of the Bundrens should cross the river on the broken bridge while he takes the wagon with his mother across the river in the water. While doing this Cash ends up falling from the wagon and injuring himself. He ends up with a broken foot passed out on the side of the river. This is a perfect example of how Faulkner is able to show that people who try to do the greater good for the group of people can end up in worse conditions than how they started. Then the member of the Bundren Family who does the least in the quest Anse doesn’t want Cash to see a doctor when they have the opportunity to do so. This starts to foreshadow Anse’s selfishness. Cash in the eyes of many was just trying to fulfil what his mother wanted but ended up getting hurt in the end. Faulkner

Anse Bundren is a lazy, selfish man, which results in being an ignorant person. He is like a small child, requiring the help of others for all things. Faulkner tells the reader that all Anse’s neighbors, especially Vernon Tull, have to help him with things like building Addie's coffin. Anse’s neighbors may have been spreading God’s word the first few times they came to help him but it is hard to love someone who can’t and won’t help themselves. Jewel and cash are the ones trying to get the wagon across the river, not Anse, even though that wagon holds the coffin of his wife's body.…

All circumstances and subjects have various perspectives and points of view to them. A Catch 22 displays conflicting perspectives in which there isn't either a solitary decent or a terrible, positive or negative. Tragic turn of life Loss, pain and suffering are stepping stones, slowly building and shaping an individual’s life. These tragic events help transform life, in sometimes drastic ways, that it has the power to mold and often determine one’s destiny itself. In the book, The Other Side of the Bridge, Mary Lawson incorporates this by demonstrating how tragic events continuously play a major role in shaping the destiny of the central characters. Despite the fact that traumatic events scar Ian Christopherson and Arthur Dunn for life, these incidents help them achieve what fate has set in store for them. On the contrary, such events cause a drift in the lives of two brothers, Jake Dunn and Arthur Dunn, defying whatever had been predestined for them.…
