What were some of the main preparations that both Cas & Jonesy completed before heading off to Antarctica?
Both boys had to make many essential preparations to ensure they would safely and successfully complete the trip. They had to gain and practice their ability to ski, including training while pulling masses of tires behind them acting as sleds. This included training in places like North Canada and Chile. They put on a lot of weight to act as a fat insulation to supply them with extra warmth, as well as the fact that they would loose a huge amount of body weight upon completing the expedition. They had their gear and clothing, including their tents, professionally altered and modified to suit the Antarctic conditions.

Some of these being: hypothermia, starvation, frostbite, injury, white outs and crevasses. They minimised these risks with the previous preparations that were made and at one stage took into action the antibiotics of which they already had with them due to careful planning. Crevasses could be a few centimetres to hundreds of meters deep, they had to take a massive amount of caution when crossing the ice.
What were some of the physical and mental challenges that both boys faced during the expedition?
They faced dealing with the lack of energy and being out under a lot of physical and mental pressure. The physical pain later on caused mental struggles and put them to a test of strength. The only humans they saw for months were themselves, they would have feared loss and the lack of contact would be a huge test to the mind. They were both physically capable of competing the expedition, it was a matter of will power of which would get them to the end.
