Jon Marcus wrote an article called “The Reasons College Costs More Than You Think,” to prove to people that most students won’t get their Bachelor’s degree in their first four years in college. College costs more than we think because we don’t realize that there are so many expenses that students need to pay for in just one year. Everyone thinks they will get it was done by the four years but many don’t take enough classes for them to succeed that goal. The author says “The average added cost of just one extra year at a four-year public university is $63,718 in tuition, fees, books, and living expenses, plus lost wages each of those many students could have been earning had they finished on time, according to the advocacy group Complete College America.” That’s just one year of college!…

Barbara Walraff comments, “copyeditors spend most of their day, every day polishing, so they can do this work more efficiently than just about anybody else, and they can always do it in a way that is appropriate to the publication. I think the most important thing copyeditors do is straighten out tangled, confusing, ungrammatical sentences.” It takes a special type of person to love punctuation and grammar and spelling, and not everyone is cut out for the job. Copyediting simply is not a temp job. Long hours, low pay, and high stress are not adjectives many picture when fantasizing about their dream professions.…

The transition from High School can often times be very frustrating for students. L. Lennie Irvin opened my eyes to one of the bad habits I picked up on in High school. The habit of straying from the topic or theme could cause me to fail not only papers in English but my other courses as well. I personally had a hard time with English my first semester of college. In High school I was always at the top of my class and my teachers would tell me how great of a writer I was.…

The career I have chosen to do my paper on is a Parole Officer. I chose this career because criminal justice is my major and I find it to be interesting that this is a legal career where you will need a four-year bachelor degree in that major, psychology or a related area. I was not sure what the job entailed, but after doing research, I'm a little more certain that this may be the career for me. A parole officer supervises those who serve their sentences outside of a prison and those who are released from prison to serve the rest of their sentence with the public .…

On May 20, 2016, my adviser and I sat down to have a discussion about the university required courses and courses that was mandatory for the Liberal Arts college. English 101 was one of the classes I chose to take my first semester because I knew I had more knowledge on writing efficient papers because of my previous AP English courses in high school. In high school, I was always told that I was an adequate writer because I knew the basic of connecting ideas that provided a clear concrete understanding. However, the only time I received an unsatisfactory score was when the information I included in my paper was unorganized. Also, another reason I chose to take English my first semester instead of my second semester was because I knew I needed…

If you were to ask me about my high school writing experience, I would tell you that I did not have much experience. We did not have any classes at my school that were specifically writing classes. At my high school, we just had regular English classes where we would occasionally do a few papers in. My English teacher senior year was a great person, but did not necessarily teach us a lot about proper styles of writing papers. Coming into college English, I did not feel well prepared with what to expect for a college level writing class.…
