Cross Season Failure

Improved Essays
I experienced failure last year during my cross country season. It was my first year of cross country and my coaches thought that I was going to be able to get a 5k time in the nineteens by the end of the season. I thought that I would be able to get or at least come close to that time. This was not the case though, I suffered from a burnout and formed a stress fracture soon after. Finding out that I had a stress fracture was heartbreaking. I was very upset and didn’t understand why it had to happen to me. I knew that my season was over and that I wasn’t going to be able to accomplish my goal. My season ended with a 5K time of 21.18 minutes. This is considered a good time, but far from what I wanted. I couldn’t run for about three months

This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

My trainer was coaching me at a rodeo to show me how to get my horse into the gate because she is very hyper when it is her time to run. When I was walking in she penned my legs up against a gate and then tried to take off running tearing the muscles in my knee. This September I return to the saddle in support of the important mission and work of the Southern Tier AIDS Program. Please consider a donation toward this worthy cause. Last year, higher than normal temptures and a nasty head-wind on the back half conspired with under-training to knock me off the course at mile 72ish. It was a humbling experience being pulled off the course and riding in a car past my more fit compatriarts. Taking the lessons learned from last year, the 42 mile course is the goal this year, with the hope that I can push my post-40 body across the finish line and complete what went pear-shaped last year.…
