However like most hero’s Crispin, also known as “Asta’s son”, was scared and engulfed with fear at first. Fear is something we all experience, especially when we are faced with dangerous situations or placed in extreme environments, but it’s not something that we can all overcome. He was simply running and hiding from John Aycliffe and bounty hunters who were chasing him to collect the reward for killing him. Running and hiding isn’t heroic at all. His journey became heroic when Bear, Crispin’s mentor, gets captured by John Aycliffe and his men. Crispin knew that Bear was not the main target, but he was essential to John Aycliffe for the purpose of luring Crispin out of his hiding spot. When Crispin sees John Aycliffs men approaching he realizes that they weren’t playing around. For example, he states,” Armor on their chests and rusty metal caps on their heads. Broadswords were in their hands.” Instead of running like a coward to save himself he goes to warn Bear. To demonstrate, “Wasting no time I plunged down the narrow passage between the buildings, clambered up the wall and slipped down into the garden a second time. This time however I looked in upon a small room filled with benches upon which sat some men, Bear among them. Standing before them was John Ball.” Crispin shouts,” Bear soldiers are coming.” This piece of evidence clearly shows that Crispin is able to act heroically because instead of running to save his own life he runs towards the place where Bear is imprisoned knowing that there are guards and men ready to kill
