Cross-Country Team Analysis

On November 12, the men and women’s cross-country teams finished their current season. The season ended with the team’s competing in a national meet in Mississippi where the men placed 8 of 17 and the woman’s team 11 of 14.
Clint Woods, cross-country coach, stated in an email that this season’s focus to run as a group during meets had a positive impact on the teams.
“Developing the ability to run as a team has been our biggest strength. We have a big pack of runners for the guys (group and) that make us a strong team,” Woods stated. “Also, our girls have worked to run together and that has made them more competitive as well.”

Woods stated there was an overarching aspect to this season of cross-country that stood out to him.
“Every year of coaching is special, but this season it has been particularly special to see our runners deepen in their relationship with the Lord,” Woods stated. “I've seen this overflow in other aspects of their lives and it has been a cornerstone in which our team has grown together.”
Sam Scaggs, a sophomore engineering major and runner for the cross-country team, stated in an email that he has seen his fellow teammates engage in Christ like character both on and off the racecourse.
Scaggs stated that during a race at the national meet in Mississippi his teammate, Dameon Davis, displayed notable character.
“At the finish of our five-mile race, Dameon was pushing up the hill to the finish line. As he was closing in, one of the runners from a different team collapsed before the finish line,” Scaggs stated. “Dameon stopped during the race, helped the runner to his feet, and helped him finish the race. Meanwhile sacrificing his time and place. I feel like this is a perfect example of the character we all hope to
