Cross Country Comparison

Cross country and track have the same coach, and most teammates continue to do both sports. Because the teams are so similar, they retain the same captains. I inputted 52 weeks per year for both sports, because I am always running and contributing to both sports. The sports mesh together; I help plan for Track during Cross Country, and vice versa.
Due to daily intense training, I suffered from shin splints in tenth grade. Although I worked hard to heal, it took months, and I was injured for the rest of the cross country season and the track season. I tried swimming and modifying my workouts; I still exercised daily. When summer came, I took full advantage of my time off. Independently, I managed to heal and get myself back into prime shape. When eleventh grade arrived, I surprised my coach by beating half of the varsity boys. That was the year I made varsity, and I have been strongly improving since then. I have always been passionate about running, and intense

I worked with a friend and his parent to get the club started, and we made a team of eleven people. We had to learn a lot in order to complete the project. I attended workshops, build sessions, fundraising events, part shopping, and of course, the competition at Lake Skinner. May 2016 was our school's first competition, and we won three awards. We are currently working on our second year and boat.
Because I didn't receive an award or honors for it, I didn't mention my perfect attendance in the awards section. I haven't missed a single day of high school so far, and it is my goal to complete senior year with perfect attendance.
The SAT was a challenge for me. My school doesn't offer any SAT preparation, so I had to work independently to study. After I got my first score (1360), I wanted to improve it, so I used the summer break to study as much as I could. I used multiple study books along with online resources. My score improved by 80

Three years ago, as a freshman, I decided to join cross country. This decision has shaped my high school career through the friends I chose to the activities I participated in. Cross country is not an easy sport, though. It requires physical endurance, but more importantly, the mental strength to push past and overcome the obstacle of pain. By sticking with this sport, mental toughness has permeated who I am and helped me go beyond the standards and work my way through trivial challenges and huge endeavors alike.…

How the Pursuit of Profit Drives the Test Prep Industry As many people are aware, America is a capitalist society motivated by profit. However, Alexandra Robbins describes in Chapter 13 of her novel, “The Overachievers: The Secret Lives of Driven Kids”, a specific industry that is driven by the pursuit of profit and that is the test prep industry. Before the new SAT was released the College Board “insisted that students’ scores could not be improved by coaching” (Robbins 299). That didn’t stop places like Kaplan and Princeton Review from making money “prepping” anxious teens.…

Every week I had physical therapy. My friends from the football team couldn’t wait to see me back on the field with them. They always encouraged me, when they would stop by the trainer’s room after practice. I took their encouragement, and did all that I could to heal quicker. Sophomore year rolled around, and it was time for me to get back into the sport I loved, but my leg still was in tremendous pain when I would hit full speed.…

Physical therapy is recommended for people whose shin splints do not seem to go away. If a person heals fully before continuing to do strenuous exercises then he or she should have a very good prognosis and not get shin splints again as long as all the precautions are taken to keep the legs healthy. A person can tell if they are fully healed from shin splints by checking to see if the legs are fully flexible and at full strength again as well as being able to run without being in any pain. A doctor can also take follow up x-rays to make sure the stress fractures have properly…

The thing about running is that you hate it until it’s over, at least for me that’s true. Personally, I like running, and it gives me a chance to get out and work towards something. All throughout high school, I’ve run track, and for two years I ran cross-country, both are great sports. The two years I ran cross-country made me wish I ran all four years. If you’re part of more than one sport, it’s natural to choose a favorite.…

I went from running a 30 minute three mile to running a 25:26 three mile and that year I got most improved. The start to my junior year of cross county wasn't all that good I hadn't ran all summer and I felt like I was back to when I first started and I was in a way it took me a while to get back into the swing of things. That year I didn't set an overall personal record on any trail which was a huge let down, but there were a few times I set a PR on the trail compared to my sophomore year times, I also got most improved that year also. The start of my senior year started off with a…

Through this club I was able to serve as a mentor for various middle school students. Every Friday I would go to a middle school classroom and spend breakfast with them. During this time I would play games with them or talk to them about anything they wanted guidance with. The really cool thing about this program was that I didn't have to go a middle school, but because my school also has a middle school level. I was able to build relationships with students I see around…

As a first generation student, trying to figure out everything there is to know about college was initially an overwhelming challenge. However, I’ve had great help from older friends and teachers. I’ve also attended many college seminars to learn more about the admissions and financial aid process. Most importantly, I now have a college advisor from College Point who calls, texts, and emails me every once in a while to make sure I’m on the right track and answer any questions I may have.
