The 2016-2017 presidential election is known as one of the most iconic elections in modern history. In the beginning of the election there were 17 candidates in the republican party and 8 in the Democratic party, and all candidates but two dropped out. The last candidates remaining were Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump, and the election named after them was called “Crooked vs. Crazy”. This election, to most Americans, did not have the most honorable candidates to vote for, but it was a matter of who was the better candidate. Hilary Rodham Clinton, former First Lady was the Democratic Candidate for the 2016 election, and was believed to be the first woman to become president. In the year of 2012, an attack in Benghazi, Libya caused a lot of commotion and hate towards Hilary Clinton and President Obama. This incident was in September, and an American embassy was under attack from Islamic militant group, and the military called for backup and Hilary Clinton never sent any help. The United States Ambassador, Stevens, was 400 miles away from the site of the embassy in Tripoli, and he received word of the attack and soon after this attack his compound was set ablaze, with no backup. Hilary Clinton at this time was the Secretary of State, and the approval of more soldiers being sent for backup had to go through her. She did not allow backup soldiers to be sent and this caused the loss of four American lives. Another scandal relating to Hilary was her email scandal, which was also during her time as Secretary of State. During Hilary Clinton’s four years of being Secretary of State, she never used her government email. Instead, Hilary used her own personal email account to administer her government business. When the government found out about her personal account, they asked her to turn into them all the emails that pertained to the United States government. Hilary Clinton turned in over 30,830, and her party deleted over 31,000 emails that the proclaimed were “personal”. She stated that her reasoning for having a personal account was because she didn’t want to carry around two different phones.
