Cronos wife Rhea gave birth to five babies. Each time she gave birth Cronos would take the baby away and swallow them as a whole. Rhea was determined to save her sixth baby by having a secret birth. She gave birth at night on a mountain. Mother Earth helped out Rhea by spending her new grandchild to a cave on an island of Crete. The next day, Rhea gave Cronos a stone wrapped in clothes. As usual he snatched the baby out of Rhea hand and swallow it as a whole.
