Salem Witch Trials.
The event known as the Salem witch trials took place in the year 1692 on New England Massachusetts Bay Colony. It all started in a puritan town called Salem, the puritans were very religious people who lived their lives according to the bible and took their religion as a very important part of their life. There was no separation between law and religion.
It all started when the daughter and niece of the minister of the town began to suffer distempers and their bodies contortioned into odd positions, when the doctors couldn’t tell what it was they call it witchcraft. So the minister began “hunting “ for the witch that cursed the girls, the girls accused the Indian servant Tibita , when Tibita was brought to trial she claimed innocence and accused another four women of being witches . When someone accused a person of witchcraft, they must present evidence, the evidence consisted of visions of the tormented victim claiming seeing her attackers specter. Tibita was released because she gave names of witches, while the other women didn’t get so lucky. After that event in the next several months more than 20 people were executed for the crime of witchcraft, most of them innocent people who were falsely accused by their jealous neighbors. …show more content…
