Critique Of An Informative Speech On Gun Control

Improved Essays
Kattie, you did a very fine job on informing the class about gun control and the issues of having guns on campus. For the most part, your speech was easy to follow, but I should caution you and tell you to not be afraid to use transitional phrases as you speak. I felt like there were transitional phrases here and there, but not as much as it should have been. In addition, even though, there was a situation where you was not able to use your visual aids, you still did very good on getting your main idea across. Overall, you did a really good job on discussing and giving facts about gun control, even though majority of the class is not able to bring guns on campus yet, but it's good that you brought this to our attention to think about. Also, you did a very good job on eye contact and not showing any signs of nervousness, so I applaud you on that. Lastly, I just encourage you to be more creative with your attention getter because your topic can be very hard to convince/persuade people because of ways certain people grew up and all of these crimes going on in the world today that can …show more content…
Honestly, I never realized and seen it to be that way, but thank you for drawing that to my attention. In addition, your speech was easy to follow in most cases, but be sure to use more transitional words and phrases, as well as learn how to wrap your sentences when moving on to the next point. Your visual aids seem very decent and well organized, but learn how to explain and describe the pictures you use on your aid more. Overall, you did very well in making eye contact with the audience and informing the class on your topic, so good work. Lastly, I just encourage you to speak out more when you present because you have a deep voice and when you mumble or talk fast, it can be very hard to hear you clearly, and also, be sure to give resources on your topic that you are sharing with the

My video seemed to be clear enough, the audio was not as good as I had hoped. I am proud I finally got the laptop to work with me and stayed relatively calm during the ordeal. The dead tell better stories then the living. For instance, if anyone had survived from inside the WTC, perhaps everyone would know that it wasn’t a controlled demolition. Perhaps then, in september of every year, the victims families wouldn’t have to endure the constant disrespect of their loved ones deaths by tin foil wearing conspiracy theorists. The shooting of john Lennon and Ronald Regan were not part of any mass shootings. And yes, I’m sure Jodie Foster wished Hinkleys motives never came out.…

As the country with the largest stockpile of privately owned firearms, we aren’t doing much to prevent them from falling on the wrong hands. According to The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act convicted felons, drug users and abusers, and mentally ill people are prohibited from purchasing or possessing firearms (FBI). But, convicted criminals and mentally ill people are acquiring firearms without any difficulty and are using them for the wrong reasons mainly because of weak laws that regulate the sale of firearms. Firearm sales in gun shows are not regulated by the FBI and buyers are not required to go through any kind of background checks at the time of purchase. According to a report by the UC Davis Violence Prevention Research Program titled “Inside Gun Shows: What Goes on When Everybody Thinks Nobody’s Watching”, it is reported that more than forty percent of gun sales occur privately without any regulations.…

The United States of America is no stranger to tragedies. Whether it be the Columbine High School Massacre or the shooting at Virginia Tech, America has been plagued by terrorism and the murder of many civilians. Although often thought to be unstoppable, I have constructed a plan to end the reign of terror. By instating strict gun control, intensive outpatient therapy for military veterans, and allocating money for more intense security in public spaces, the United States government can efficiently protect the citizens from the atrocities that have plagued the country in the past.…

By Federal law gaining legal access to a gun is a process simpler than a refinancing a family home in the United States. Our government states that under federal law a licensed gun dealer cannot sell any handguns and/or ammo to anyone that is under 21 and can’t sell long arms (Shot guns/ rifles) to anyone under the age of 18 but an unlicensed dealer cannot sell handguns to anyone under 18 and can sell long arms to anyone regardless of age. Everyday there are up to nine deaths under the age of 21 daily, leaving us with an issue that has been here for such a long time but has been continuously ignored and overlooked because most people go about finding solutions for guns in extreme ways. It’s not about getting rid of guns but controlling how…

We had to pretend we were in that moment of time where the occasion is occurring and give a speech based off of that occasion. I did my special occasion speech on my friends Rachel and Thai’s wedding. I noticed during this speech after watching it, I did have some of the similar and same habits as I did in my persuasive speech. I used my hands a lot, I swayed my body throughout the speech, was very fidgety and used “um” and “like” a lot as word fillers. I noticed I did not have as good eye contact in this speech as I did in the persuasive speech because I had to do a lot of thinking to remember where what was going to say in the next part of the story I was giving.…

From watching the persuasive speech, it is a recurring theme in my process of watching myself speak that I am much more sympathetic of myself after given said speech.
