Don T Breath Utilitarianism Analysis

Don’t Breath is a thriller movie about three young poor law breakers who sets to rob an old rich blind man’s house. Rocky, Alex and Money the main characters have different motives for this undertaking. Money who basically wants to get rich, Rocky who dreams to leave home due to her neglectful mother and Alex who is hesitant to do the activity but is deeply infatuated by Rocky that he agreed to join the gang. They set to rob the blind man for they believe that he is an easy target only to find out that their probable victim is not helpless as he seems to be. Based on the Utilitarian doctrine, an action is right insofar as it promotes happiness, and that the greatest happiness of the greatest number should be the guiding principle of conduct (cite). The heist seems reasonable due to the fact that the blind man’s fortune can be benefited by the majority. The blind man’s riches would help the thieves escape poverty. Rocky would be able to live her mother’s nest and start a new life.
Their wrong deed can also be assessed based on the consequentialist theory. According to consequentialism, an act can be justifiable not based on cause but results. The thieves act of stealing may be considered wrong however the results would give them a better life for themselves and their family. Because of the hardships they encounter in life, doing bad is reasonable because this is their only way to recover.
On the other hand, doctrines that does not support their activity is the right’s theory and the front page theory. Based on the right’s theory, in legal terms an act is immoral if it’s against the law. Legal rights protects the interest of every individual and in ethical stand views people with respect for their well being and property. Rights theory is also the notion where an act is judged by its action itself disregarding the results of the act whether good or bad. This concern is whether he should let the delinquents go due to he has darker secrets. Theories that support letting the three robbers leave is categorical imperative, justice theory, and front page test. As stated in the categorical imperative theory, a person has duty to other people even without any ulterior motive. It’s unconditional. As a rich man, the antagonist has the obligation to let them go and not do any harm to them because he is rich and the money would be able to help them. Based on the Justice theory, every person has the right to equality. Those who are deprived should be have the most benefit. In this case, the robbers are poor and the blind man is rich. In terms of money, the robbers deserve more money because they have less money in their life. Another reason why the rich man should allow the young people with their activity is because he himself is worst person and has many hidden bad secrets that he prefers not to be discovered. This idea is supported by the front page test, in ethics, the blind man would probably prefer to be robbed than have his darkest secrets discovered and be seen in the headlines.
In contradiction, tIn the blind man’s perspective his home was trashed by the robbers and he was violated. The robbers disrespected his home and violated the law. For this reason, the robbers should be punish and in this way he should not let them go so these
