Critical Thinking Paper

Activity Reflection The softchalk lesson was actually very helpful when looking at the penguin flying article. It talked about that critical thinking involves having an open-mind and being honest when facing personal biases. The quiz about common beliefs I found very interesting as I have always heard that mozart makes babies smart and that more people have suicidal thoughts when it is dark out. It made me realize that I made to question common beliefs and see what proof is actually behind them. Also seeing the difference between the two websites and realizing that I may of source the first one was a source even a week ago was alarming. The internet is growing in size everyday and it's valid that you know how to discern reliable sources from the unreliable ones. The article BBC launches iPlayer campaign with flying penguin footage,” is the source I'm going to be evaluating in this paper. The author is clearly visible on the top right side of the paper. However there isn’t any other information other than her name. If you wanted to make sure you had a good source you should look to see if their credentials are listed after their name. In this class there is none. The author is with a reputable organization in England, the Brand Republic, which is a marketing, news and job finding site. When I attempted to look up other articles or even information about the author I couldn’t find anything about them which makes me question their credibility when writing this article. The article was written to get the attention of BBC viewers and the public. The point of writing this article was get people interested in the Player by using the topic of flying penguins. The issue of the penguins evolving the ability to fly all of a sudden was only talked about by the one man in the video, but the was no expert scientists mentioned. The information presented in this article is pretty basic. It doesn’t say how long they been flying or why they are the only types of penguins that can

Critical Thinking is the objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgment. A time using critical thinking is when I enrolled into school after being out of school for some years. Feeling apprehensive about taking courses online for the first time, I did not know what to expect or did not know if was able to complete the assignments. Before I knew about the resources that the school offered. Expressing my concerns to one of my close friends who has already completed their bachelor’s degree.…

8.) Do not indulge in fear-motivated behavior; instead, replace it with behavior motivated by emotions of love and compassion. Usually, we tend to think about the disappointing moments of our past. That leads to the development of fear. Thinking about our past events leads to fear that they should not recur, and we feel threatened by such fears.…

Mistakes are inevitable, we all make them. Some of the biggest mistakes we make are when we have a lack of discernment. This lack of discernment is due to our inability to critical think. Dr. Gerald Nosich, a professor in the field of critical thinking, wrote the book: “Learning To Think Things Through: a guide to critical thinking across the curriculum.” In regard to critical thinking, Nosich states: “Two conditions are necessary for critical thinking.…

Penguins albeit birds, have very unique traits that differ heavily from the traditional bird. Despite their uniqueness, paleontologist are still unsure as to where these birds have originated and how they have spread. Previously acquired fossils held too little information to give insight to their evolutionary history. To solve this problem, paleontologist continued to dig around until more reliable evidence would be found. It wasn’t until the discovery of a partial skeleton along with new research on penguin’s thermoregulation, that scientist were able to pinpoint penguin origins and how they were able to spread.…

What an amazing critical thinking response. Your post made me think more into the situations and the feelings that someone with dementia has and feels. You put a lot of thought into what you post and that's awesome. I think a lot of people get too frustrated too quickly with someone who is suffering from this disease , and rather than help the person, they give up too quickly. Daily duties is something I never thought off that could help someone.…

Diana Yelenets Randee Goodstadt HIS-111-YD1 16 January 2016 The article I chose to discuss is “Ancient Women Artists May Be Responsible for Most Cave Art” by Rachel Nuwer. I was drawn to this article because I have never heard about such a possibility before and this was a new concept for me. The article started talking about how most scientists have always assumed that the artists who drew cave paintings were males because they often depicted animals and hunting. It is known that during the paleolithic and neolithic era, men were usually hunted while women were the gatherers.…

We tend to forget that some of them live in extremely cold environments and can actually swim deep underwater for sufficient amount of time. These strange birds are referred to as penguins. These birds tend to baffle us because of their similarities and different traits compared to their flying relatives. Exactly why and how did they began to develop differently from other birds?…

In my small circle of friends I'm generally known as the conspiracy theorist. I'm known to question everything. Often times this is a help in my every day life because I research and prepare for everything but occasionally it can be a hindrance as well because I'm not inclined to trust many sources of information. With that being said, I really think in this day and age of electronics- where everything literally is at your fingertips, we all need to be a little skeptical when considering the validity of any source.…

Students are to: Critically reflect upon their own values and attitudes towards families, communities and citizenship and articulate the impact of these on their practice ‘No one can consider themselves a professional unless they are prepared to engage in reflective activities’. Gardner 2006 Critical reflection is essential in developing effective practice. Our own values and attitudes do come into play as individuals and as teachers. The trick is to first acknowledge that we have personal biases, identify where these are and to work with them. As teachers, we will have to work with a vast variety of people and families, which we may not agree with their personal…
