Critical Thinking in Law Enforcement A few days ago we did a lesson that I found very hard to get into. This lesson required putting yourself in someone else’s shoes that didn’t have the same morals that you personally did. I had to put myself in the shoes of someone who is vegan, while I am in favor of eating all sorts of meats. Even though it was a hard lesson it opened my eyes to something important. Critically thinking allows you to see both sides of a conflict to be able to come to one resolution. I found that this is a lesson that can also help me in my degree and future career in criminal justice. For instance, when my classmates and I had to portray characters this helped me handle public interactions. We had to talk to the classmate that sat across from us, represents the interaction between me and the person I’m confronting. This exact situation would be something I’d be facing everyday, where the crime they committed would be the conflict. It’s rare to come to mutual agreement in this real life situation, but it can be done. The other lesson is about critical thinking. Critical thinking is something that not just everyone can do. Critical thinking is something we do when we want to examine something a little further than just what the average person tends to. This would be useful in law enforcement.
