Critical thinking is the disciplined art of ensuring that you use the best thinking you are capable of in any set of circumstances (Elder & Paul, 2013). The critical thinking ability of health care professionals can have a direct effect on patient safety (Robert & Petersen, 2013). The process of critical thinking in my opinion was not used by the RN in this scenario. Patient centered care was not given and patient priorities were not established such as patient's new onset of nausea (Harrington & Terry, 2013). Also, the RN showed poor decision making along with poor problem solving, by offering to give the patient more pain medication.
