The assessment techniques I would use to determine the behavior patterns is solution focused. I would use this technique to disrupt the ongoing maladaptive patterns the client is experiencing. I would do so by interviewing the client by using different solution focused techniques. The first technique, I would use is the exception technique. By using the exception technique, I’ll be able to get the client to think about a time when they were not using drugs or alcohol. The client will be able to see how positive their life was without the drugs and alcohol. The next technique of solution focus, I would use is the second-order change, which will allow the client to think what they might do in the future to prevent them from using drugs and alcohol.

Supervision of Treatment Plan and Success Indicators Supervision for clients with addiction issues in the CBT model involves “regular structure, including agenda setting, identification of goals and the assignment of homework” (McHugh et al., 2010, p. 516).
