Critical Thinking and Technology I remember when I was just a little kid, I always tried avoiding those math problems which are required thinking critically or deep thoughts, because I wasn’t trained for it. However, I could not just avoid it for my whole life, so I decided to face it, started practicing and developing my critical thinking skills. I applied critical thinking with things we did, learning in the class, and planning activities, etc. It helped me a lot in math class, not just understand the problems, I was able to explain the problems to my classmates. Many different meanings come to my mind whenever I hear the words critical thinking. …show more content…
A few important skills that is learned through critical thinking is learning how to discipline oneself in thinking, understanding the world as well as learning themselves. Without critical thinking, we could only look at the things’ surface instead of looking deeper to see what in there. For example, in the article “Critical Thinking Crucial in the Information Age” written by Massio Pigliucci, he gives an example which is the Earth is round, but what if someone asks why the Earth is round, then could they answer that question, or do they only know because the experts said so? In addition, if they are pushed further, they might not know how to explain or they actually do not know much of why the Earth is round, or even anything. Therefore, critical thinking is very “useful” if we know how to develop the skills. Last summer, I was invited to Engineering Summer Bridge Program at CSULB, a program that helps me to understand more about this field, where we always have to think critically to be able to solve the problems. It was very interesting and also helped me to practice and develop critical thinking skills. During the program, we practiced to use critical thinking in all the activities, and classes. After the program, my critical thinking skills has improved a lot and I am able to think deeper whenever I need to solve problems or make …show more content…
They think that the Internet is definitely making us “slower” or even more stupid than before due to the time that they spend in front of the computers playing game, doing research and surfing. In the article “Is Google Making Us Stupid” written by Nicolas Carr, he says that he can feel his brain is “draining”, and his mind is not the same as before since when he spends lots of time online, searching and surfing on the Internet. From his own experience, he states that the Internet is distracting him and others from doing their works on the computer. “The more they use the Web, the more they have to fight to stay focused on long pieces of writing” Nicolas
