Critical thinking is a process, not an outcome. It’s about how to think, not what to think. The critical thinking process arises from a critical attitude. It can be triggered by positive events as well as negative ones. Halpern (as cited in Fowler, 2002) defines critical thinking as “thinking that is purposeful, reasoned, and goal-directed – the kind of thinking involved in solving problems, formulating inferences, calculating likelihoods, and making decisions when the thinker is using skills that are thoughtful and effective for the particular context and type of thinking task.” (Fowler, 2002).
