In the past Aristotle once said, “It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it (“It is the Mark…”).” Technology, industrialization, government, and kindness are all things that happen because someone did or did not accept a thought. These things all have one thing in common though, they are marks of educated minds in every society. An educated person holds the key to the future. As a student embarking on the journey to becoming a teacher I have begun to form my philosophy of education. In education I feel there should be critical thinking, an open mind, and effective and positive: classroom management, learning environment, and communication. All of these things working together will make one fully functional classroom.
Critical thinking is the first part of my philosophy. Critical thinking is when one demonstrates, “disciplined thinking that is clear, rational, open-minded, and informed by evidence (“Webster’s New…”).” Teachers Kindergarten through twelfth grade give critical thinking much discussion and very little action. One big issue with critical thinking in schools is that teachers are too focused on exam scores (“The Importance of…”). In my classroom, I plan to have a way of organization for classwork, notes, and classroom information. In my classroom notes will be kept in a binder, classwork will be kept in folders, and classroom information will be in folders that are hung on the wall. Throughout every class period I…
