The book that I have chosen for the English ISU assignment is ‘The Wars’ by Timothy Findley. There are several reasons why I chose this novel over others on the list. To begin, the summary indicated that the book would include an account of the First World War right from a young soldier. I was interested in learning the life of a boy similar to my age and how he dealt with and survived the horrors of war. I looked forward to seeing the drastic contrast especially with the life of peace I live now. Secondly, I read several reviews online about the novel before finally making my decision. Some did not have good things to say about it, but it was mostly because it was an assigned English novel. However, other readers praised the analytical style
