I found reflecting to be the most beneficial part of the critical friend process. I valued the feedback my critical friend had to give me. I compiled a list of questions to ask my critical friend that I thought would be most beneficial to my teaching.
The first thing I asked my critical friend was is she enjoyed being a critical friend. I asked for her positive experiences and learning experiences from the process. My critical friend reported that overall she enjoyed the process. She loved seeing the difference between the baseline data to the formal data. She reported that she never realized the significance of proper wait time, and became more aware of wait time after the observation. She reported that even though this observation

I asked if my wait time was too long or too short. She reported that for an observer the wait time seemed very awkward, but according to the data it had a positive impact. She suggested that next time I try to only give 3-4 seconds rather than 5 seconds. Then I asked if she noticed more student participation. She reported that because of the wait time she did notice student participation increase. She said she was surprised by the amount of hands that started to creep up the longer I waited. I asked if she noticed the reaction of the students during the wait time. She reported that she felt like they used it wisely and the average to low students truly needed the time. The last question I asked was if she thought the reflection was beneficial. She said overall she loved the experience. She stated that it is very time consuming and would almost be impossible to implement often. We both agreed that the reflection part is the most beneficial part.
When I took time to reflect on my lesson, I was happy with the overall process. I think that the data and reflection from my critical friend will both have a positive impact on my future teaching. Three of the biggest takeaways was that held me accountable, helped me look at my teaching through a different lens, and gave me time to

Friends is a show that seems to transcend time. Even today it is one of the most re-watched TV shows out there and there is a good reason for that. With amazing writing, smart direction, and a fantastic cast from day one, Friends can easily be described as one of the best sitcoms of all time. It ran 10 seasons, running from 1994-2004. The plot was simple; six New York City friends, who live in the same apartment complex, are trying to navigate through their twenties.…

The TV series I will be speaking of that shows most of the sociological concepts is the show “Friends”. This show shows most of the sociological concepts that we have learned in class for example the show has groups and organizations, deviance, sex and gender, and socialization/social interaction. To give brief summary of what the show is about is literally about 6 friends and their everyday lives dealing with their everyday struggles and different experiences. In the show the 6 friends names are Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe, and Joey, each of them or at least most of them are great examples to some of the sociological concepts we have learned this semester. The first sociological concept I noticed in the show was…

I have always loathed recording myself. However, when thinking about raising the bar in my instruction, I know it is necessary. Completing the survey made me realize that while I am trying to consistently give my students rigorous work, there are some lessons that do not exactly fit the bill. For example, in my survey, I stated that while I have given my students relevant readings, I do not do so often enough. After completing the survey and annotated lesson, it was then very useful to participate in the Peer Video Critique.…

However, Gibb’s (1988) would challenge this statement because he believes that negative feelings inspire us to reflect deeper and analyse what caused these negative feelings and why they arose in the first place. Appendix 7 on a lesson I taught outlines a second transformational moment where I asked myself why I was reflecting negatively and why I thought the lesson had not gone as I hoped. This was a pivotal moment in my reflective journey because I had started to reflect deeper and I had altered my thought process. Prior to this, I would shy away from analysing where my lesson had gone wrong with the fear of rejection. However, this was one of the first times after my lesson where I had written a lesson observation and I was embracing reflecting on the negatives and asking myself, what can I do to ensure that does not happen again?…

I performed the history on the patient as the physical was performing an ultrasound on the patient and doing other various exercises. This gave me a limited amount of time with the patient. It took me approximately 20 minutes to complete the history. I felt like this time limit helped me to ask the right questions in a more efficient, but focused manner. If I didn't have a time limit I felt like the patient history would have extended too long, resulting in less time the physical therapist had with the patient.…

Those who surround us can change our outlook on life as well as change the way we live in a negative or positive way. Friendships is the unit that many look to in their times of need, for advice, or just someone to talk to in general. However in this world these “friendships” that exist “overlook philia, the slower-burning and longer lasting complement” (Akst 84). Askt brings about the idea of all of the “friends” that one may have but the friendship that we possess is “diluted” and will not fulfill the true meaning of friendship being “uniquely suited to fill the void because unlike matrimony or parenthood, it’s available to everyone, offering concord and even intimacy without aspiring to be all consuming” (Akst 85). Friendship as well as the idea of it is arisen throughout the entire novel, creating…

Throughout this course we have not only gained factual knowledge about East Asia but also a framework that we can use to understand other countries and cultures around the world. To consider ourselves global citizens, we must have an understanding of the world and the way it works. From learning about the history of East Asia, we now have a better understanding of why it works the way it does today, and that makes us less ethnocentric and more empathetic toward others. This course has allowed me the opportunity to grow more as a global citizen, and to see where I have achieved and failed at pushing to see beyond myself and be a more inclusive person. Asides from the overt growth of knowledge about East Asian and its history, I have also gained an appreciation for the past and understanding that we cannot always believe what has been told and retold throughout history.…
