They call them “Tap-taps,” the brightly painted open back trucks that transport passengers through the dusty streets of Haiti. A traveler taps the side of the vehicle to board, pays, rides and then taps to jump off at a desired destination. For one particular man who sat with his face covered by a towel, that destination was the Diegue clinic in Port-au-Prince. All I knew from intake was that this patient was here for a foot issue. I noticed the adult sitting uncomfortably, a towel wrapping his foot, as his eyes scanned around the room.…

During my employment at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Boston I was able to work with a graduate of MCPHS, Kaiming (Kyle) Chiang, MPAS, PA-C. His knowledge and comprehension of his role as well as his eagerness to always do more inspired me. Kyle’s professionalism and confidence led him to be a favorite among several patients; he was able to diagnose with confidence; and was able to communicate with the patients in a way that they would be able to understand. Kyle was always an advocate for MCPHS and as I continued to work with him I was able to see, not only his passion, but the knowledge he gleaned from his time at MCPHS. I knew that MCPHS was not only a school that prepared their students well for the workplace, but also teaches them in a manner where patient education and…

To me, a career in medicine exemplifies the perfect amalgamation between the fascinating precision of science and the compassionate and holistic approach of patient centred care. Given the opportunity, I would love nothing more than to gain the skills and knowledge to combine the two. My devotion to the sciences is reflected in my choice of A level subjects, and my school award for chemistry received last year further illustrates my unfaltering enthusiasm. Moreover, I was able to excel in AS level Sociology illustrating my commitment to an antireductionist world view, enhancing my understanding of public health and the vital role of health promotion in patient care. This is an area I am eager to explore further, given the opportunity, during my medical education.…

I believe I am a hardworking and compassionate human being who is a great listener, has a strong work ethic and practices good communication skills.…

Sketching arts and Surgery sound as two different worlds, but in reality they share many details. For an artist to draw, we must pay extra attention to any little details, which is what I do whenever I hold my pencil to draw.
