Characteristics of the included studies are shown in table 3. In two of the studies qualitative study design was used through interviews, which is exploratory research. It is used to gain an understanding of underlying reasons, opinions, and motivations and provide insights into the problem. Qualitative Research is also used to uncover trends in thought and opinions, and dive deeper into the problem.
The remaining study used retrospective, online, case notes review. The advantages of which include the ability to access large amounts of clinical data at a relatively low cost, the ability to study associations of disease over long periods and evaluate hypotheses pertaining to clinical research questions, which may then be tested using prospective trials. Limitations include incomplete or missing data within the medical record, records lacking specific patient information, difficulty in interpreting or verifying documented information, and variability in the quality of documentation among health care personnel (Gregory and Radonivsky 2012).
In all three studies the numbers were small, but reflected the general population of the regions where the studies took place.
