Singal starts off naming a few shootings that happened that year. Then goes into details about the reasons young adults become shooters. Also that shootings happen. After she names the reasons she gives a few answers as to how to prevent shootings from happening. The purpose of her article is to explain why kids become shooters. Her audience is also the general public, school officials, and anyone who reads Science of Us. The only example of a shooting that she names is the 2014 Oregon shooting. They would be better able to know what the students know. They would get information on threats from students because of the relationship the officer builds with them. Though usually "soft cops" are the first to be let go when there are budget cuts in the school. Media is another prevention against school shootings. The coverage the media provides to the public increases the rate students report suspected plots. Which a few turn out to be real threats. This solves a portion of the whole problem.
