In this essay I will be talking about the ways to read an image which are Roland Barthes Denoted and Connoted Messages , Stuart Halls Encoding and Decoding and the Context views by different people in Different ways which I will be talking about on a certain image called the vulture and the baby by Kevin Carter in 1993 but has an original title called “ Struggling girl”.
Kevin Carter is a Photographer that is located and situated out in South Africa taking images within the situation of the apartheid out and within Africa . Kevin Carter was born on September 13th 1960 in Johannesburg in South Africa and became a photojournalist. when people look at this image they can think is this what really happens out in africa but other people can get worped and touched by the image emotionally.
An unbiased meaning of the image is that the photographer kevin carter was only doing what he was ordered to do which was going out into Africa and taking photographs not getting involved in natural selections of what happens around but I also think that kevin could go against what he was told and save the child from dying of starvation and thirst .
Context: the context of the image is that this tells you that the photographer has been working over in africa and says what syle of photography that he does . Kevin carter took this image on his trip to a country called sudan in africa , this image is of a girl who was taking a stopping rest on the way to the united nations feeding centre that is in africa .
As he was getting all his equipment and him self ready to take the image he was told not to touch or pick up any of the victims that he could see , at this point this made the meaning behind the image more controversial cause many people thought that Kevin was being cruel for just doing his job and leaving the child
