Audra Bosarge's Speech Analysis

Improved Essays
The first speech that I will give my critical analyses on is Audra Bosarge. Audra openly spoke about how nervous she was in her speech, however, besides a few issues, I think she did well. She followed the directions with her speech. It was well organized and delivered. She stayed within the 1-2 minutes and she was seen waist up. Verbally, Audra spoke clearly and with a good variation in her voice and at a good speed. Although she spoke well, she said the word “Umm” entirely too much throughout the speech. This is something that she should really try to work on. Audra really engaged with her audience nonverbally. She made great eye contact, and she performed the speech as if she was in a conversation, rather than giving a lecture, which keeps listeners involved. She could try to loosen up a little with her body movements in her next speech. Her arms were frozen in place throughout the speech. If I were to rate Audra on her speech, I would give her a 6. If it had not been for the over excessive use of the word “Umm” her score would have been much higher. Overall, besides that …show more content…
I don’t want to say that she was monotone, but their seemed to be no variations in her voice. Also she could improve the rate of her voice. Even though everything spoken was very clear and easily understood, she spoke too fast. The speed of her voice combined without inflections could possible make it hard to become fully engaged in the speech, had the speech been longer. Nonverbally, Lauren did not seem too anxious. She does needs to make eye contact with the audience in her next speech to improve. She could also try to engage more with the audience with gestures. It seems as if maybe she was reading the speech from beginning to end, without stopping to acknowledge an audience with her eyes or body

Although she had good delivery, her speech was lacking in conversational quality, which is “presenting a speech so it sounds spontaneous no matter how many times it has been rehearsed” (Lucas 242). The speech had good nonverbal communication because she used her body and voice effectively to clearly express her ideas. She had minor inflections in her voice, which are “changes in pitch or tone” (Lucas 244). Her slightly repetitive pitch pattern could distract the audience.…

Mother Teresa uses the topical pattern because it is similar to how a natural conversation flows. She delivers her speech as if she is talking to an individual person. This method is great for speakers who want to connect with their audience; however it is easy to drift away from the main topic points. For Mother Teresa, however, this was not a problem. With every main point she gave, she told a story and was able to connect it back to her main message.…

She wasn't monotone and had a very intelligent sounding voice. She spoke at a slower than average pace, but this actually helped the speech, because the information she was giving was sometimes difficult to understand without a little bit of extra thinking. Her volume was at a very good level, however, it helped that she had a microphone to use during the speech. She made sure to keep the microphone away…

But for the suffering humanity everywhere. ESPECIALLY DO I MEAN TO LABOR FOR THE ELEVATION OF MY SEX.” (Flexner, 64) This tells you a lot about Stone. She was hardworking from the time she was young until she got older. Stone was forced, clear of her words, had courage, and made sure she would win over everyone when she was done speaking. Lucy Stone educated herself and I think that shows a lot about who she is and how she was an important advocate on women getting the vote.…

The speech is well-organized and inspired. When she wants to emphasize a key point, she not only improves the volume, but also uses body language, pointing out that it is the key point. Her speech was full of enthusiasm and had full eye contact with the audience. At the same time, her speech was fluent, without any tone of speech. Susan Anthony also has great pace, she says “The only question left to be settled now is: Are women persons? And I hardly believe any of our opponents will have the hardihood to say they’re not. Being a person the women are citizens.” (Anthony, 2) You can really understand what things she’s trying to hit home, she really talks to the audience, and making them really think about their actions because of her pace. I really think her use of vocabulary, sentence structure, and pace really got her point…
