Our world is constantly aiming its decisions among color, a simple matter that presides with too many hidden details. Specifically, the color of human flesh tends to dictate a large portion of society’s ‘rules’ or actions towards treatment of one another. Many people have adapted affirmative action to counter mistreatment of minorities despite its flaws. In a 2013 Princeton poll, it is stated that “two-thirds of Americans believe college applicants should be admitted solely based on merit, even if that results in few minorities being admitted” yet “28% believe an applicant 's racial and ethnic background should be taken into account to promote diversity on college campuses.” Handling a situation with …show more content…
Every student and worker has filled out countless surveys or forms that require their sex or race. When institutions collect information based on our unchosen, birth given identities there is an immediate unfair advantage or disadvantage provided. In 1999, an Indian American student uncovered the truth of affirmative action and racism by taking a risky decision of altering his appearance to portray a black man with intentions to receive acceptance into medical school. Fortunately, his absurd plan worked, indicating that as a South Asian applicant would not get into the school even though an accepted African-American applicant may have identical qualifications. This issue defines the term of inequality. If institutions crave diversity they might as well accept people of unique qualifications and ignore race or gender.
