At the beginning of the article, Goodman states several strong and interesting statistic evidences to provide the readers some background information about the rapidly decreasing proportion of the foreign news, as the news organizations keep limit the foreign bureaus in American society. He first emphasizes the idea that the news are a part of people’s lives by listing “Twitter, Facebook and other forms of social media” that people are using everyday for gathering various information from all over the world. In addition, he illustrates another historical evidence of the Arab Spring, which is a well-known revolutionary activity, to prove how powerful the social medias can be. It allows every user to be a “contemporary correspondent” who transport the first-hand information to people around the world while that news may be limited from reporting in their own countries. However, Goodman then states, these sources of information may be bias because of “speculation, propaganda and other white noise into the mix” from a person instead of professional funnels. At this point, he mentions his persuasion again that the U.S. government, in order to form a truly democratic society, should increase the proportion of the professional foreign reporters and news to provide information to people as the globalization is accelerated by the social
