I was first supposed to separate the color of the folders because each color is for a particular situation. For instance, the red folders where used for domestic violence. Then, I was to take each color section and put them in alphabetical order, and I was to sort them by year as well. This task was not difficult at all, and plus they update their filing cabinets frequently. I just happened to come in at a time when they needed to reorganize them. My second task was to open up boxes, that were recently donated, and put up the items in the appropriate spot. Just by looking at the building you would never know how big it was, but it is huge and each room is also huge. I am still not completely sure how many rooms the building has because again everything is confidential, and I couldn’t just wonder the building. I was allowed in the areas were the donated stuff was stored. They had a room for kids toys and activities, there were three rooms mixed with adult, children, and teens clothing, a room for dishes and other household items, a room for babies’ needs, and so much more rooms full of …show more content…
I thought how am I supposed to complete ten hours of volunteering, but it was not as hard as I thought it was. I truthfully enjoyed this experience, and I have never done nothing like this before in my life. Meeting the ladies that work there was awesome too. They are truly sweet, and they take their jobs very seriously. After, I completed my hours I got to sit down with both of them, and talk to them about what they do there, and why it was important to them. They even tried telling me about the starfish story, and it’s even the front logo on their entrance door. I genuinely loved going and being there, and I even offered to come volunteer any other time. I know they are busy ladies, and they are constantly getting donations, and don’t have much time to organize or put stuff up. When I was there it made, me realize how lucky I really am, and how others are not so much. The crisis center has clients, who they have helped for years and years, and they still need help. I saw a client bring in her children’s clothes (that she got there) that didn’t fit any more to exchange it for some that did. It is extremely sad to think about these individuals and the situation they go through. I don’t even know how people like Mary and Carol, can stomach the stuff they see and
