Crimson Tide Case Study

Alabama (1-0) – A convincing win over the USC Trojans keeps the Crimson Tide at the top of the list. Alabama found its quarterback in true freshmen Jalen Hurts. Hurts tallied 150 total yards and four touchdowns in his first college football game. The Crimson Tide defense, as always, was spectacular. They limited the Trojans to 92 yards in the first half and showed off incredible speed at the linebacker and safety positions. Needless to say, Lane Kiffin was very happy in his return against his former school.

Florida State (1-0) – After a dismal first half that resulted in a 22 point deficit, the Seminoles scored 33 unanswered points behind redshirt freshman Deondre Francois’ coming out party. The quarterback completed 33-of-52 passes for 419 yards and two touchdowns. Francois was impressive with his pocket presence and internal timing as well as his toughness. Francois was hit hard multiple times but continued to stay in the pocket and complete big time passes. Running back and Heisman hopeful Dalvin Cook finished with 91 rushing yards rushing on 23 carries, but his biggest impact came in the passing game as he hauled in seven receptions for 101 yards. Do not expect Cook to stay so quiet in the run game for the rest of the season.

The Buckeyes showcased running back Mike Weber, who ran for 136 yards in his first college football game. J.T. Barrett starred with six touchdown passes, while leading the offense to 776 total yards. Barrett completed 21-of-31 passes for 349 yards and ran for another touchdown pushing himself into the Heisman
