Criminal Justice Prison System

Within the Criminal Justice Prison system, there are approximately about 9 different types of offenders. The offenders ranges from the situational offenders, The Career Criminal, The Sex Offender, The Substance abuse, The Mentally ill Offender, The Mentally handicapped Offender, The Offender With HIV/AIDS, The Elderly Offender, and The Long –Term Offender. You would likely to see all different types off offenders being place in the same prison cell and rarely see segregation. Most offender who are classify, they would be assign (Segregate) too different cell block due to their criminal background check. The important aspect of Segregation or Prison classification is to minimize risk between Offenders. The offender meets with a prison staff, this person could be a mental health, social worker, and a classification specialist. The prison staff would likely evaluate the inmates by checking the offender’s crime, social background, education, job skills, work history, health, prior prison sentencing and most important criminal record. From gathering all of this valuable information from the inmate, the specialist must do the most important part, is assigning the inmates to custody classification and prison.

There are 4 types of prison security level, they range from Maximum, close, medium, and minimum security level. Close security prison are composed of single cells and divined into cellblocks. Maximum Security were designed to deter the possibility of escaping and violence by inmates. Medium security are less rigid then the maximum security, although the M.S.P were designed to deter escapes and violence.
