Corrections/Criminal Justice Internship Correction social workers focus on helping inmates who have been incarcerated and plan on returning back into society after their sentence. In past prison and jail systems, inmates were treated with little dignity and were not given the skills needed to advance their well-being after leaving the correctional system. Rehabilitation has been a recent task for social workers in this setting to help inmates adjust to the society outside of the correctional institution and to help decrease recidivism rates. Social workers bring attention to giving inmates a second chance at their life in society and find resources to help the inmates decrease they chances of reincarnation.
