Criminal Justice Background: Video Analysis

Decent Essays
I don't often meet or interact with students who are from a criminal justice background, so I was curious as to how someone from that field would respond to the video. It’s definitely interesting to read new perspectives, especially since ASU tends to surround you with students strictly from your own field. I thought you brought up a really interesting point when you talked about using cognitive sciences to rehabilitate criminals who have the tendency to commit rape and murder. I think this idea should be examined thoroughly, because the way we deal with those things now isn’t very effective. I always thought the goal of the criminal justice system was rehabilitation, not punitive punishments.

Its very depressing hearing they get out jail with a bus ticket and only $75 and two weeks worth of medication which is tough because some don't probably continue to take their medication when they get out of jail. I can visualize the fact that most mentally ill prisoners that are released usually come back within months back to prison. There are programs that allow mentally ill people recover to like in their community. It’s very interesting to hear that most mentally ill people don't have treatments.…

The first thing I would do in processing the crime scene is interview the first officer that arrived at the crime scene to establish a theory of the case. Second I would examine the crime scene to see if the theory of the case is substantiated by what I observed. During this time I would start identifying possible items of evidence, identifying entry and exit points and getting a general outline of the homicide scene. Third, I would take some pictures. Photographing the scene would allow me to record a pictorial view of what the scene looked like undisturbed and to record items that is possible evidence.…
