Venturing into a courtroom to defend alleged murderers and bringing suit against liable parties is an activity that most undergraduate college students forego. For me, however, that improbable world has become a reality. Fueled by a desire for justice, an interest in our national judicial fabric, and a curiosity into the perplexities of our political system, I have dedicated my college career to the field of political science. The courtroom scene mentioned before comes alive on a regular basis as I compete as a member of Boston University’s mock trial team. These sessions combine the rhetoric, presentational, and persuasive skills taught in my political classes with semi-real-world experience of practicing law in a mock setting. I hope to

For the past three years with a brief six-month break in between, I have worked as a team member at two different Target stores, one near home and one in Boston’s Fenway area. My most recent position - customer service manager - has placed me as the direct overseer the daily activities of 10-20 employees on a given day with emphasis on long-term development. In addition, I am a student ambassador on campus at BU’s Educational Resource Center and Center for Career Development. There, I am privileged to work with my fellow peers in order to increase awareness and use of the centers’ resources in a team-driven environment. I see leadership not as one person forcibly moving another in the direction of one person’s desired outcome. I look at my leadership role not in a hierarchical manner with me demanding excessively from my employees but rather in a collegial way. Servant leadership places a leader hand-in-hand with the people he/she is serving, walking alongside to achieve a common goal. The common objective for my servant leadership involves recognizing the needs of my peers, helping them to bring out their own strengths, and ultimately bringing the members of an organization towards
