Criminal Defense Lawyer According to the American Bar Association, there were roughly 1,300,705 lawyers in the United States in 2015. Some examples of lawyers are environmental lawyers, real estate law attorneys, and family lawyers. A criminal lawyer helps prove to the judge that the person that is accused of being guilty is not guilty. Most lawyers focus on specifically one type, but some lawyers focus on a variety of types. There are many lawyers but every individual lawyer has their own unique job to do. Depending on what type of lawyer you become, many things are different such as salary, what kind of people you meet, and what you studied to become a lawyer. There are many colleges in America that offer legal studies to help students that are interested in law to have a basic understanding of law and a specific set of laws that the student wants to learn. The University of Pennsylvania (UPENN) is a college that offers a degree in the program legal studies. Before a student starts to study at UPENN, the student will have to apply and get accepted to UPENN. Some of the basic requirements for an incoming freshman are SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) or ACT (American College Testing) scores of critical reading 690-790, math 710-800, writing 700-790, and ACT composite score of 32-35. UPENN does not have a specific GPA (Grade Point Average) required, but the average GPA of a freshman without immediately getting rejected is a 3.9 which means getting As in nearly all classes. Also, an incoming freshman would 100% be in the top half, 99% in the top quarter, and 95% in the top tenth of their high school class most likely.
