Like many kids, I wanted to be a veterinarian at first because of my love for pets. Those dreams died when I finally realized that I would have a bigger impact on my community if I become an attorney. When you’re an attorney and doing your part, there’s always one less criminal on the streets. There’s always one less person abusing the system. Growing up in New Orleans with a crazy high rate have taught me many things. A lot of people around us do not know their basic rights so they’d believe anything that’s told to them. One way I can give back to the community when I am a licensed attorney is to give the citizens the real consultation they deserve. With more futures like me in this city, the citizens will be well aware of their rights.
“About 10,000 people in the United States may be wrongfully convicted of serious crimes each year, a new study suggests.” (researchnews.osu.edu) I know as a fact that if there’s more attorneys that are out there for the job, and not the money, we wouldn’t have such a high number of wrongly incarcerated people. If there are more people out there who will do anything to provide a justified trial, we will not be having this problem. This is the reason why I want to become an attorney. These statistics and stories are the reason why I wouldn’t mind being in school learning about new laws for the rest of my
