To elaborate, the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) “collects information on crimes suffered by individuals and households, whether or not those crimes were reported to law enforcement” (Crime in the United States, p 2). Even though this organization is not one of the front runners such as the courts or law enforcement itself, it is still linked to the justice system. The Justice System’s goal is to protect victims, however, when information is reported about them without their consent it is seen as an invasion of privacy and goes against the victims’ natural rights. It is hard enough for victims to come forward about a crime without it being discovered behind their back.
Victims are once again, entitled the right to be heard. This right to be heard can be in the court room or even to help improve the Criminal Justice System. A few people had a decent experience with the Criminal Justice System, but a vast majority of the victims had a horrible experience. For example, the first meeting began with a woman saying that within the Criminal Justice System, “the justice is for the criminal so maybe call it equal system or a just system” (PublicResourceOrg…Constitutional, 2008). I agree with her statement that the title entails that it provides justice for the criminal rather than for the victim and in some cases this statement may actually be true, but that is far from the intent of the Criminal Justice System, it is there to help and that is why everyone is innocent until proven guilty. There was also a recurring instance that the parents of victims kept discussing and that was that they were not told in a delicate manner about the murder of their child. One man said that he had to go through “many phone transfers and [was] told blatantly by the head of police that [his] daughter [had] been murdered” (PublicResourceOrg…Notice, 2008).
