Crimes Committed Explained
Why are crimes committed? What makes people commit deviant crimes? Social structure theory and social conflict theory are used to explain why a person may commit the crimes that they do. Tito is a young man with good intentions but because of where he and his family stand in the social class system he turns to deviant crimes in which it’s the only way he really knows how to make fast money, like selling drugs. According to the theories of crime, I believe Tito really doesn’t make a choice of turning to deviant crimes to obtain money to support himself or his family but he has too because having money is the only way to survive in the world to have a roof over your head and …show more content…
In Tito’s case getting a legal job or going to school and trying to get a good education isn’t really working out for him because he or his family doesn’t have the financial support and he needs fast money to survive and a legal job won’t get him that fast money he needs. So Tito turns to selling drugs because it’s the only way he knows will get him the fast money he needs to survive. Tito case is an example of strain theory because he is angry at the fact that has to work really hard to be financially stable and it’s very difficult for him to reach his goal because he has no support. Using this theory and the mode of adaptations I believe Tito falls in the category of innovation because Tito accepts his goal of trying to have money to be stable but he turn to an illegal activity to do …show more content…
In Tito’s case this is completely unfair how social conflict works because the laws are just protecting people with wealth but it shouldn’t be this way a crime is a crime and a person who commits the crime is a criminal is shouldn’t matter how much money or power they have. Tito’s crime in my opinion is a petty crime compared to people who commit white collar crimes because Tito’s crime would really just affect his a portion of his community and people who commit white collar crime affects the society and yet Tito crime will be severely punishable and the white collar crime will be punishable but more lenient
