This was determined by identifying the type of glass and reconstructing the glass window in order to view the radial fracture. The UV flashlight caused the glass to fluoresce, thus indicating that the glass type was float glass. The float glass fragments were reconstructed to reveal the radial fracture. The radial fracture is a line that extends outward from the point of impact that breaks first on the side opposite of the force. The top of the glass formed a right angle with the conchoidal fracture lines and then curve down towards the bottom of the glass. This pattern suggests that the glass was broken from outside of the house. After dipping the glass in the liquid and observing the Becke line, the refractive index was calculated to be 1.42. This refractive index can be used to distinguish different types of glass from each other. This refractive index can help when trying to identify glass fragments found on a suspects clothing of on a victims

depending on the thickness of the glass, most lines have a tendency to to bend away from the point of impact. If you look more closely to the fractures, you can see that the smaller lines are in a parallel direction and the edges are facing away from the original location of impact which are also called hackle marks. (Saferstein,2011). Any force applied on any one of its surfaces; will cause the glass to bend. Normally, a broken window can leave traces of information in regards to the direction and impact of the glass; with that information in can’t be helping when reenacting crimes scenes for investigations.…
