Many sociologists bases on different theories to understand and explain this phenomenon. My study will focus specifically on the Theory of Differential Association and the Theory of Control.
Today, urban violence expresses despair and creates an alienation that constantly increases and ultimately takes the form of self-destruction that seems to defy any possibility of control. The sociologist Edwin Sutherland use the term differential association to indicate this ”From the different groups we associate with, we learn to deviate from or conform to society’s norms” (Sutherland 1924,1947; McCarthy 2011) to make explain how different groups in which we operate interact on our behavior.
Take the example of the orphan from his early age, who is going to be raised by a host family. The family, therefore, will teach him many things, give him the chance to become a good person in society. The host family will do everything possible to address the lack of his biological parents’ affection and even to avoid him feeling his parent’s disappearance. While growing, he will perfectly follow the advice because he is receptive to the life style and education that are given to him. The orphan will act depending on how the adoptive parents behave.
