Under the crime control model, the main focus is on public safety and protecting society from the criminal element. To achieve this goal the crime control model stresses a tough on crime approach that supports strict and swift punishment. This conservative approach emphasizes crime reduction, enforcement, and deterrence. These factors include, but are not limited to an individual’s family background and upbringing, education, social surroundings, income level, and mental condition.
