May 11, 2017 How many people can say that they were the first casualty of the Revolutionary War? Only Crispus Attucks, that’s who. During this time Crispus Attucks’ story will be told. His early life, adult life and contribution to the Revolutionary War that made him a hero. There’s not a lot known about Crispus Attucks’ early life, but here are some facts. Crispus Attucks was born in 1723 in Framingham, Massachusetts. Along with his mother Nancy Attucks, father Prince Yonger and believed sister Phebe. Born into slavery Crispus Attucks didn’t have a lot of training or education, but he did have quite a skill for buying and trading goods. When Crispus Attucks was a child he had a passion for freedom and getting it. He ran away when he was a child and was in the Boston Gazette when his owner offered ten pounds if anyone found him. Unfortunately, he died before the war. Crispus Attucks was a Colonist. Most of the time he would get in arguments and fights with the British. Which didn’t turn out well for him because he eventually got shot and killed. In 1858 abolitionist declared Crispus Attucks day. Martin Luther King Jr even used his name in a speech one time. When he was sixteen he was sold to William Brown at an auction to be his slave. He led a group of three one night including him, to stand up for what they believed in. That five were the five killed in the Boston Massacre. He also was the first person killed. Crispus Attucks was debated to be a hero patriot or a rabble-house villain. Crispus Attucks used the name Michael Johnson when he escaped from slavery as a name so he wouldn't be caught. He escaped from slavery at age twenty seven.
