The Creighton men’s tennis team lost against DePaul University, falling 6-1, but also brought home a decisive win against Western Illinois last weekend, with a 7-0 sweep against the Bulldogs.

The loss and win leaves the Bluejays with a 7-9 record on the season.

On Saturday, during the matches against the Blue Demons in Chicago, junior Harrison Lang, at No. 3 singles, came out with Creighton’s only singles win against DePaul. Lang captured a close 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 victory over DePaul's Alex Galoustian, with a 10-8 win in the third set tiebreaker.

“Fortunately I was able to squeak out a third set tie-break,” Lang said. “It was a good win.”

In doubles competition, Brooks Kendall and Alex Koca made a significant comeback against DePaul, resulting

“Brooks Kendall and Alex Koca came back from being down 1-4 and won their match.”

Creighton’s other two doubles teams each had a 4-6 loss, putting the Blue Demons at 8-13 this season.

The Bluejays continued the action in Maycomb, Illinois, on Sunday, by facing Western Illinois.

The Creighton tennis team had a conclusive victory over Western Illinois with a win in every singles and doubles match.

Lang and August Nysted seized a 7-5 victory over Western Illinois’s Nikola Pavlovic and Surya Sawhney, which marked the closest match of the day.

“Just getting use to the courts and getting use to just different environments was probably the weirdest thing,” Lang said. “We played indoors on Saturday and at Western Illinois we played outdoors.”

Between the other two doubles matches and six singles matches, Creighton never dropped more than one game in any of the sets. This put Western Illinois at 0-15 for the season.

“I'm just happy with the way they stayed focused,” Lilly said, “and played outdoors for the first time, and did well.”

The men’s tennis team next faces South Dakota State on April 22.
