Robert Frost once said, “I am not a teacher, but an awakener” (“Goodreads”). Good teachers are very hard to come by. Just because you know how to teach, certainly does not mean that you should teach. In order to be a successful teacher, your heart and soul needs to be in your job 100% percent and no less than that. I believe that education should not only be what is mandated to be taught. Rather what your students have interest in and what is going on in the world at the time.

Every kid in a classroom will take something differently away from a unit, or a lecture. Schools hold their students up to the highest standards imaginable. If you ask a high school principle, they are more concerned with all the test scores and SAT/ ACT scores their students are receiving. Schools want you to memorize information so that are able to pass the tests, even though after the test is taken, there’s a high probability of the information not being retained. But the school got the statistics that is making them look well presented. This is not how it should be looked at though. When it is looked at in this perspective, it is not in the greater good of the students. The best thing to take away from your education is what you can use in your future career. It is something we must earn. Teaching is one of the hardest professions. It has changed a million times, and if you ask anybody they all have their own opinion as to the correct way to do it. Nevertheless, everybody deserves the right to learn the information that they want and go on with the field they please. All kids should also start school at the same time so no child has more of an “advantage” over another one, and they are all able to grow with one another. Taking tests is not the most important part of school, the most important is that you take away things you will be able to use in your future. Teaching should not be black and white, it’s more of a grey color. There is no right way to construct your classroom, or the way you teach in it.
